Damalio Powell HR Background Information

Damalio Powell is a Jamaican Business Consultant with a degree in Management Studies, specializing in Human Resources, from Northern Caribbean University. Recognizing a major gap in accessible HR resources during his academic journey, he authored Jamaica HR Laws Made Simple—the first book of its kind tailored specifically for HR students and professionals in Jamaica.

While pursuing his studies, Damalio observed that the available materials were either American textbooks with limited local relevance or dense PDF compilations of Jamaican legislation. Neither offered the practical, user-friendly insight required by students or HR practitioners. This realization inspired him to create a more effective solution.

In developing the book, Damalio received invaluable support from several Jamaican government agencies, including the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the Bureau of Gender Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, and the Integrity Commission. Their guidance and input—particularly in addressing technical queries and providing essential formulas—ensured the accuracy and relevance of the final content.

His journey began by sharing simplified legal insights through online blogs, which quickly gained attention from HR professionals and students across the island. Encouraged by his lecturer, Mrs. Carol Bent-Wright, who played a key role in deepening his knowledge of Jamaican labour laws, Damalio later produced educational YouTube videos that further highlighted the widespread lack of awareness surrounding workplace rights.

Jamaica HR Laws Made Simple is the result of this work—a practical, easy-to-understand guide that empowers HR students, mistreated employees, and business owners. The book bridges complex legislation with real-world challenges, offering clarity and confidence to anyone navigating the Jamaican labour landscape.
