Damalio Powell HR Background Information

My name is Damalio Powell, a marketing and public relations professional with a degree in Management Studies, specializing in Human Resources from Northern Caribbean University. Driven to address a significant gap I identified during my academic years, I authored Jamaica HR Laws Made Simple—the first book of its kind crafted specifically for HR students and professionals in Jamaica.

While studying, I observed that the resources available were predominantly American textbooks or extensive PDFs of Jamaican laws, neither of which met the practical needs of students or professionals here.

To create this book, I was fortunate to receive assistance from various Jamaican ministries, including the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the Bureau of Gender Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, and the Integrity Commission. They provided essential answers to my specific queries and shared critical formulas that contributed to the accuracy and relevance of the content. This support was instrumental in crafting a resource that is both comprehensive and precise, designed to meet the distinct requirements of Jamaican HR practice.

Initially, I shared key insights through free online blogs, which unexpectedly attracted attention from HR professionals and students across Jamaica. Encouraged by my lecturer, Mrs. Carol Bent-Wright, who enriched my understanding of Jamaican labour laws, I later produced YouTube videos that revealed widespread gaps in awareness about workplace rights.

This journey culminated in Jamaica HR Laws Made Simple, a resource aimed at empowering HR students, mistreated employees, and business owners alike.

The book bridges complex HR regulations with everyday workplace challenges, providing accessible knowledge that helps individuals protect their rights and aids employers in navigating Jamaican labour law effectively to avoid potential legal complications.
